Overview

The Searchlight is a high-intensity consumer light fixture that consumes 25 units per second when powered. It provides player-operated rotatable aiming with full 360° yaw and ±90° pitch control. The searchlight produces multiple light effects (beam core, beam spill, halo, splash) and uses material swaps for ON/OFF visual feedback via lens emissivity.

Light Effects

  • Beam Core: Intense central beam (primary light source)
  • Beam Spill: Surrounding light scatter from main beam
  • Halo: Atmospheric glow around light origin
  • Splash: Impact light effect on illuminated surfaces

Memory Points & Ports

  • port_input_0: Power input connection point
  • light_main: Primary light source origin
  • light_main_dir: Light direction vector
  • light_main_axis: Light rotation axis reference

How It Works

The Searchlight consumes 25 u/s when powered via input_0. Players can enter operator control mode to adjust beam direction using Yaw (horizontal, full 360°) and Pitch (vertical, ±90°). When powered, the lens material swaps to emissive, creating a bright glow. When unpowered, the lens becomes non-emissive and dark. Multiple light effects (beam, halo, splash) combine to create realistic illumination and shadow casting across the environment.

Basic Searchlight Setup

Battery
Searchlight

Simple direct connection for searchlight operation. Battery should have at least 25 u/s capacity.

Reliable 24-Hour Security Lighting

Isolated power circuit for watch tower searchlight ensures it functions even if base grid goes down.

Tips

  • 25 u/s consumption — modest load, but requires dedicated source or battery
  • Player-operated controls require direct interaction; position at watch posts or firing positions
  • Full 360° yaw + ±90° pitch allows complete coverage of any area
  • Multiple light effects (beam + halo + splash) create realistic illumination
  • Emissive lens ON/OFF provides visual power status feedback
  • Pair with battery for nighttime operation; T2 Solar or Furnace for consistent daytime/night power
  • Elevated placement maximizes coverage area for perimeter defense
  • Multiple searchlights can be daisy-chained via splitter for full base perimeter lighting
  • Ideal for base security, airfield surveillance, or nighttime defense operations
